Electrical Design Lead Engineer

The Lead Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of all Electrical systems. This role involves detailed design and project co-ordination of Electrical works on Infrastructure, Energy and oil & Gas industrial projects and overseeing all aspects of electrical physical design, principles, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines to achieve project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Lead and manage the Electrical Engineering team to ensure the successful delivery of project milestones.
  • Develop project schedules and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with project managers, procurement, construction, and other engineering disciplines.

Design and Development:

  • Develop and review detailed design specifications, engineering documents, and drawings.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation and control systems and components to meet project requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Extensive Knowledge of electrical system studies using relevant software and conversant with short circuit, load flow, motor starting & voltage drop calculations, main single line diagram, protection & metering diagrams, relay setting & protection coordination of the system, Emergency Diesel Generator Sizing, Underground cable sizing, Grounding. Etc.
  • Should possess good knowledge of international codes & standards. 
  • Should have worked on equipment sizing, specifications, MR preparation, technical bid evaluation and vendor print reviews of various electrical equipment like Switchyard, Generator Step-Up Transformer, Busduct, MV & LV switchgear, MCCs, power & distribution transformers, DC systems / UPS, Cables, generator circuit breaker, bus duct, lighting fixtures.  
  • Skills in review of 3D Model in S3D and be a stakeholder in 30%, 60% and 90% Model Reviews with Client, Vendor and Sub Contractors
  • Vendor Prints Review of Electrical / Equipmental packages. 
  • Preparation of three Line Diagrams & Logic Diagrams, Overall Single Line Diagrams, conversant with electrical layouts like raceways, lighting, grounding & lightning protection, Switchyard layouts etc. 
  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods. 
  • Knowledge of inter discipline coordination. 
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. 
  • Review Electrical Systems Vendors offers, prepare Vendor Technical Clarifications and prepare Technical Bid Evaluation reports.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team.
  • Conduct technical reviews and risk assessments.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks. Must be self-motivated, results oriented, and be flexible to work well under tight schedules in a fast paced multi-disciplinary team environment

  • Good oral and written English skills able to produce fluent Documents, Reports, and Technical Notes

Stake-holder Management:

  • Liaise with the Electrical / Instrument Designers, vendors, and sub-contractors to ensure timely delivery and quality of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Manage  interface meetings with Clients and Vendors to progress design scopes
  • Evaluate and approve vendor proposals and technical documents.

Testing and Commissioning:

  • Develop and oversee testing and commissioning plans for Electrical / instrumentation and control systems.
  • Ensure proper calibration, installation, and functioning of all Electrical /  instrumentation and control equipment.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including specifications, reports, as-built drawings and close-out reports.
  • Provide regular progress reports to project stakeholders.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all instrumentation and control activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the engineering team and across the project site.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, / Electrical & Instrumentation, or a related field. UAE Equivalency Certificate for the degree is mandatory
  • Master in Electrical / Instrumentation  Engineering  or  Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, with a focus on petrochemical projects.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ISA, IEC, ANSI).
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, PLC programming, DCS systems).
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment:

  • This position may require work in both office and field settings.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
