Civil Structural Lead Engineer

The Lead Structural Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of all civil Engineering, Procurement, and Construction within the organization, and has a critical role in ensuring the successful completion of construction projects. Their responsibilities typically include:

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Lead and manage the Civil Engineering team to ensure the successful delivery of project milestones.
  • Develop project schedules and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with project managers, procurement, construction, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure integrated design solutions.

Design and Development:

  • Perform structural analysis and design for various structures such as buildings, Steel Structures. towers, retaining structures, Foundations, Tanks / Reservoirs and industrial facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE).
  • Develop detailed engineering calculations and simulations.
  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods. 
  • Knowledge of inter discipline coordination. 
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. 
  • Prepare & Review Civil materials technical reports , Method statements , Vendor Technical Clarifications and prepare Technical Bid Evaluation reports. Etc.

Technical Expertise:

  • Lead and mentor a team of structural engineers and designers.
  • Allocate tasks and provide guidance to ensure effective and efficient project execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for structural engineering matters within the project team
  • Conduct technical reviews and risk assessments.
  • Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of Civil Site and structural systems of moderate complexity.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Ability to issue clear and concise direction to subordinate designers and drafters.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks. Must be self-motivated, results oriented, and be flexible to work well under tight schedules in a fast paced multi-disciplinary team environment

Stake-holder Management:

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication and understanding of project requirements.
  • Manage  interface meetings with Clients and Vendors to progress design scopes
  • Evaluate and approve vendor proposals and technical documents.

Budget and Cost Control:

  • Monitor project budgets and control costs related to structural engineering activities.
  • Optimize design solutions to meet budget constraints without compromising quality and safety.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including specifications, reports, as-built drawings and close-out reports.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of design documents.
  • Provide regular progress reports to project stakeholders.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all instrumentation and control activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the engineering team and across the project site.

Qualifications:

  • Post Graduate Degree (Civil/Structural related)in a related field with min.10 years of related design experience. UAE Equivalency Certificate for the degree is mandatory
  • Advance experience in the use of STAAD, ETAB, Mat 3D, SAP, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Ideal Statica,Tekla and Revit, etc or similar software.
  • Work experience should emphasize Civil Site and structural design of heavy industrial type facilities.
  • Familiar with the provisions of AASHTHO, ASTM, ACI, AISC, ASTM, FHWA, MUTCD, OSHA, UBC and WBDG UFC codes. Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment:

  • This position may require work in both office and field settings.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
